On 31 July 2026 at 11:38 am, the final PRINCESS was completed in our manufactory. After 49 years, it marks the end of a special chapter in Wellendorff’s history.
But the memories connected with it will remain.
For almost five decades, the SILKY, COMTESSE and PRINCESS rope necklaces have accompanied some of life’s most special moments: as a symbol of love, a reminder of personal happiness and a mark of significant achievement.
Thank you to all the goldsmiths who have crafted these rope necklaces over the decades.
Thank you to everyone who has worn them, given them as gifts and passed them on.

How it all began.
1977.
As a child, Eva Wellendorff admired her grandmother’s heavy velvet curtains, adorned with silky-soft ropes. She loved running them through her hands and was fascinated by their delicate, flowing feel.
Many years later, that memory inspired a very special idea:
A necklace crafted from 18-karat gold, with the softness of silk against the skin.

In 1977, after two years of development, Hanspeter Wellendorff created the first Wellendorff rope necklace for his wife, Eva.
What began as a love story became an icon, admired to this day for its unique interplay of contrasts: solid 18-karat gold that feels as soft as silk against the skin.

The exceptional suppleness of the Wellendorff rope necklace is the result of a craft that has been preserved in our manufactory for generations.
Fine spirals of 18-karat gold are carefully formed by hand from exceptionally slender gold wire, then woven together to create the rope necklace’s distinctive strands.
